Who designs the items?
The items I make are inspired by a wide variety of historical artworks and designs, so there are all sorts of artists helping me make our badges—some of them over 300 years old!
I select designs from the free digital collections of galleries, libraries, archives, and museums around the world. I then edit them into formats that are suitable for the chosen image (such as wooden brooches or enamel pins) before sending them off for manufacture in the UK.
I generally try to make as few changes to the original artwork as possible in order to preserve their historic aesthetic and stay true to the intent of the original artist, though sometimes I have to make minor edits (particularly when translating works into enamel pins).
Are the wooden brooches hand painted?
No, they are machine-printed onto wood before being laser cut. Of course, the original artwork was likely hand-drawn or painted!
What are delivery times like?
I’m based in the UK and aim to dispatch items within 1–2 days (excepting back-orders or pre-orders). If it require longer to dispatch your order you will be notified.
In the UK, items are sent first class by Royal Mail, so they should arrive within 1–2 working days of dispatch and do not need to be signed for by you. If your order contains 4 items or less, it should fit through a regular letterbox.
Overseas, items are sent as international standard with Royal Mail. Within the EU, I expect this to be delivered in 3–5 working days of dispatch. For the rest of the world I expect your order to be delivered within 5–7 working days from dispatch.
I cannot guarantee delivery times from dispatch, but if you have not received your items within a week of order in the UK or a fortnight worldwide, please let me know.
What’s your packaging like? Do you do gift wrapping or gift messages?
Each item comes affixed to a A6 card detailing some information about the design. The card designs vary, so check which one is shown before buying!
As standard I ship each item in a purple envelope printed with gold stars. I can also wrap them purple tissue paper if it’s a gift. You can’t tell what’s inside each package when wrapped.
I’m happy to include a hand-written gift note with each order; these are hand-written in purple and gold ink, with hand-stamped gold star decoration. If you’re ordering as a gift, just let me know what you’d like in the note at checkout.
As many of our orders are intended as gifts, I do not include a receipt or invoice as standard; please let me know if you require one.
Are your items stocked in any other shops?
